Architecture
Guajira Hotel
CONCEPT
Designing a hotel that serves both the business and family tourism segments, using an adventurous yet vernacular architectural language.
CHALLENGE
Working in a semi-arid terrain with difficult topography.
DESCRIPTION
In September of the year 2009, the Foundation for the Progress of Guajira opened a private bidding contest for the design, construction, and operation of a hotel in the town of Albania in the department of Guajira, Colombia.
The Project called for the design of an executive hotel consisting of 92 rooms, an administrative area, two business centers, a gym, and a restaurant, with three different levels (semi basement, first and second floor).
The building’s design responded to the client’s needs and the specific guidelines given by the tourist advisor hired by Ainoa Studio. A low rise rectangular shaped building was proposed in order to avoid a negative impact on the surrounding area.
